PURTRUE LIFE STANDARD

璞真生命标准

A Universal Framework for Human Life State.

01Definition

Why a life standard

Health systems describe disease. Wellbeing language describes mood. Neither describes how a whole life is actually working. PURTRUE defines a shared, non-medical structure for observing, describing and improving human life state.

  • Descriptive, not diagnostic.
  • Universal — designed to hold across cultures and generations.
  • Practical — every observation connects to an action.
  • Reviewable — states are re-observed, never fixed.

The argument

Modern societies measure human life mostly at its edges. Clinical systems describe disease with great precision and say almost nothing about a life that is technically without diagnosis and still not working. Consumer wellbeing language describes mood, motivation and momentary satisfaction, and says almost nothing about capacity, stability or recovery. Between these two vocabularies sits the experience most people actually live in: functioning, but fragile; well, but depleted; healthy on paper, unsustainable in practice.

The tools that come closest are already public. The World Health Organization's International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) established that functioning is a legitimate object of description, separate from diagnosis. WHOQOL and the WHO-5 index established that a person's own account of their life can be recorded in a structured, comparable way. Aaron Antonovsky's salutogenic model asked what keeps people well rather than what makes them ill. Bruce McEwen's work on allostasis and allostatic load described the cost of continuous adaptation. None of these was designed to be the everyday language of a person deciding how to live the next three months.

A life standard is the missing layer. Not a diagnosis, not a score, not a personality type — a shared descriptive structure: which parts of life are being observed, along which dimensions, at what present state, and through which cycle of practice. Once that structure is fixed, an observation made in Milan and an observation made in Shanghai can mean the same thing, and a person's own reading of themselves can be compared with the same person six months later.

PURTRUE fixes four things and leaves everything else open. Seven life domains define the field of observation. Five observation dimensions — state, capacity, stability, recovery, autonomy — define how each domain is read. Five life states, P1 to P5, describe the present condition of the whole. One continuous practice cycle — observe, understand, act, review, adapt — defines how a description becomes a practice and how a practice is corrected.

To be worth calling a standard, a framework has to satisfy conditions that most wellness content does not. It has to be descriptive rather than diagnostic, so it never competes with medicine. It has to be stable enough that two trained people reading the same life reach comparable descriptions. It has to be translatable across cultures without changing meaning. It has to connect every observation to an action a person can actually take. And it has to be revisable — a state is a reading of a moment, expected to change, and always re-observed.

What PURTRUE is not is equally part of the definition. It is not a diagnostic instrument, not a treatment, not a risk score, not a substitute for professional care, and not a claim that any of its models have been clinically validated. It is a language for describing life state and a discipline for practising with that description honestly.

Boundary

What the standard is not

  • Not a diagnosis, screening tool or medical assessment.
  • Not a treatment, therapy or rehabilitation programme.
  • Not a validated psychometric instrument or clinical risk score.
  • Not a substitute for qualified professional care.
  • Not a belief system, and not dependent on one.
Structure

Four layers, one system

7 Domains. 5 Observation Dimensions. 5 Life States. 1 Continuous Practice Cycle.

7 Domains · 5 Dimensions · 5 States · 1 Continuous Cycle

Level 1

7 Life Domains

Vitality · Function · Regulation · Adaptation · Connection · Agency · Meaning

Level 2

5 Observation Dimensions

State · Capacity · Stability · Recovery · Autonomy

Level 3

5 Life States

P1 Compromised · P2 Fragile · P3 Functional · P4 Resilient · P5 Flourishing

Level 4

5-Step Practice Cycle

Observe · Understand · Act · Review · Adapt

03Level 2

Five observation dimensions

Every domain is read through the same five dimensions, so observations remain comparable over time and between practitioners.

State
状态
How life presents right now, in ordinary conditions.
Capacity
能力
How much demand can be met before depletion.
Stability
稳定
How consistent the state is across days and contexts.
Recovery
恢复
How completely and how quickly baseline returns.
Autonomy
自主
How independently a person manages their own life.
04Level 3

Five life states

A life state describes the present, not the person. It is expected to change, and it is always re-observed.

  1. P1

    Compromised

Daily life is difficult across several domains and support is needed.

  2. P2

    Fragile

Life works, but with little reserve — small demands feel large.

  3. P3

    Functional

Daily demands are met, with limited reserve for extra load.

  4. P4

    Resilient

Comfortable capacity, good recovery and stable regulation.

  5. P5

    Flourishing

Strong capacity, clear direction and sustainable rhythms.

05Level 4

The practice cycle

观察 · 理解 · 行动 · 复评 · 调整

The same cycle is used by a person reading their own Life Check and by a certified practitioner working with someone over months.

  1. 01

    Observe

    观察

Look at your life across the seven domains, without judgement or labels.

  2. 02

    Understand

    理解

See how the domains interact and where the real constraint sits.

  3. 03

    Act

    行动

Choose small, appropriate, non-medical actions you can actually sustain.

  4. 04

    Review

    复评

Re-observe after a defined period and compare, honestly.

  5. 05

    Adapt

    调整

Adjust to your current conditions, then repeat the cycle.

06Safety

Boundaries of the standard

  1. 01The standard describes a life state; it does not name, diagnose or exclude any disease.
  2. 02No practice delivered under the standard treats, cures or rehabilitates a medical condition.
  3. 03Where a situation exceeds non-medical limits, referral to a qualified professional comes first.
  4. 04Established evidence, emerging evidence, traditional wisdom and PURTRUE original models are always labelled distinctly.
  5. 05A person's own account of their life is treated as primary information, not as an error to correct.

PURTRUE is not a medical system and does not replace healthcare professionals. If you have symptoms or a medical concern, consult a qualified professional.

07Knowledge

Evidence architecture

Every statement inside the standard carries its origin. Nothing borrows authority it does not have.

Established Evidence
Consistently supported by a substantial body of research.
Emerging Evidence
Promising but incomplete; treat conclusions as provisional.
Traditional Wisdom
Long-standing cultural practice, presented as tradition.
PURTRUE Original Model
A PURTRUE framework offered as structure, not as proven fact.

Lineage

What the standard draws on

PURTRUE is an original framework, not a derivative of any single body of work. These are the public frameworks whose thinking shaped its structure. None of them endorses PURTRUE.

WHO ICF — functioning, activity and participation
Supports the separation of life functioning from medical diagnosis, and informs the Function and Connection domains.
WHOQOL and the WHO-5 Well-Being Index
Precedent for recording a person's own structured account of their life, informing the self-observation basis of the Life Check.
Antonovsky — salutogenesis and sense of coherence
Orients the standard towards what sustains a life, informing the Meaning and Agency domains.
McEwen — allostasis and allostatic load
Frames the cost of continuous adaptation, informing the Adaptation domain and the recovery dimension.
Heart-rate-variability research on autonomic regulation
Background for treating regulation and recovery as observable qualities, not moods (Thayer et al.).
Deci & Ryan — Self-Determination Theory
Background for autonomy as a dimension of every domain, not a personality trait.
Bandura — self-efficacy
Background for the Agency domain and for practice designed around what a person can act on.
Seligman — PERMA
Precedent for describing flourishing in multiple components rather than one score.
Rockwood — Clinical Frailty Scale
Precedent for ordered, descriptive state levels; PURTRUE's P1–P5 are non-clinical and non-prognostic.
NIH PROMIS domain framework
Precedent for a structured, multi-domain profile rather than a single index.
WHO healthy ageing — intrinsic capacity
Precedent for capacity as a composite, trackable quality across life.

Governance

How claims are constrained

  • Every statement in PURTRUE material carries one of four labels: established evidence, emerging evidence, traditional wisdom, or PURTRUE original model.
  • Where a claim rests on established evidence, the underlying source is named. Where it is a PURTRUE model, it is presented as a framework choice, not as a finding.
  • PURTRUE never states or implies that a practice diagnoses, treats, cures or prevents any condition, and never presents its own models as clinically validated.
  • The standard is versioned. Revisions are recorded, and practitioners are taught against a stated version rather than an evolving oral tradition.
  • Where an observation exceeds non-medical limits, referral to a qualified professional takes precedence over any PURTRUE practice.
