Agency
自主
Self-awareness, decision-making, self-care, responsibility and managing one's own life.
Definition
What Agency means
Agency describes a person's capacity to observe their own state, make informed decisions, and act on them — the ability to run their own life rather than have it run them.
Why it matters
PURTRUE exists to increase agency. Any support that leaves a person less capable of managing themselves has failed, regardless of short-term results.
What it includes
- Self-awareness and honest self-observation
- Decision-making and prioritisation
- Consistency of self-care
- Boundaries and saying no
- Confidence in managing one's own conditions
How individuals observe it
- · Notice whether your decisions this week were chosen or defaulted into.
- · Observe how quickly you act on something you already know helps.
- · Check where you are waiting for someone else to decide for you.
How practitioners use it
- · Teach reasoning, not dependence on the practitioner.
- · Hand over observation skills and simple self-review tools.
- · Measure success by what the person can now do without support.
PURTRUE Life Standard is not a medical diagnostic system and does not replace healthcare professionals.
